Media manager
The Media Manager allows you to import media files that you want to use in your Project:
- Images
- Animated GIF
- Videos
- Sounds
- PDF documents
This window will open automatically whenever you will have to choose a media when editing your Project. It can also be opened at any time using the following button in the top bar:
The little red corner on a media shows that the media is not used anywhere in the Project. When you build your Project, unused media are not exported into your final VTS Experience.
Import
You can import a new media using the [Import] button. Whenever you import a sound or a video, it will be converted to the format used by VTS Editor. To avoid the conversion time, prefer using those file extensions:
- Images: .jpg or .png
- Animated GIF: .gif
- Videos: .mp4 or .ogv (OGG Vorbis)
- Sounds: .wav
- PDF: .pdf
To avoid massive conversion time, non-image files can be imported only one by one.
Media details
When you select a media, the right part of this window displays information about this media:
View |
Videos and Sounds are automatically played. The player allows you to pause, stop or navigate through the media by clicking on the progress bar. |
Type |
The type of media: image, gif, video, sound, or PDF document. |
Size |
The weight of the media file. A higher weight means a longer loading time to display this media. If the media is an image, it will also display its resolution (in pixels). Prefer a lower resolution for images that will be displayed in small locations. |
Import date |
The date at which this media was imported in this Project. |
Location when imported |
If this media was imported from your computer, this is the location of the original file (before import). So you can find which file you used to import this media. In this section, you can also:
|
Used / Not used |
The number of times this media is used in the Project. On the above image, we can see that the selected media is used at 2 different places in the Project. This way, you know that you should not delete it, and that this media will be exported in the final VTS Experience when building. |
Rename or delete a media
When you select a media, you can rename it by clicking on its name.
You can also delete it with the button in the top right corner. All references to this media will be deleted in the Project. This delete operation cannot be canceled.
The file of a deleted media can be recovered from the recycle bin of your computer.
Recovered media will be stored in the VTS/RecoveredMedias folder.
It is possible to select multiple media by clicking on a media while holding the CTRL or SHIFT key. It is then possible to delete the whole selection via the general delete button at the top.
Export
Save the selected media on your computer.
Re-import all
Re-import all the media for which the original imported file is known. This operation will replace all their references in the Project using the new files.
Delete unused media
Delete all the media which are not used anywhere is the Project. This operation cannot be canceled.
VTStack
This button provides quick access to the resources of the VTStack platform.
You will find many design elements (badges, frames, buttons...) and sounds, allowing you to easily customize your scenarios.
Download images or sounds from the "VTStack Catalog" list. You can then choose to integrate them into your project, so that they appear in your media manager.
If you are already inside a project when you first download VTStack media, it will be imported directly into your project media.
Media optimizations
To optimize your project and allow it to run on memory-limited platforms, such as the Web, you must be careful about your media size:
- Images should not be larger than needed. Most of the time, a resolution of 1280x720 pixels should be more than enough for full-screen images. If you want a better quality for VTS Player on Windows, Mac or tablets, you can use full screen images of 1920x1080 pixels, but it will be visible only on screens which are able to display such large resolutions.
- Videos should weight under 30MB, and the same thing goes for sounds and PDF documents. Avoid loading Full HD videos (1920x1080) within VTS Editor. You may see a delay between the video stream and its sound (the sound being late). Reduce videos to 1280x720 pixels or lesser resolutions. This should prevent this problem from happening, and your project will be lighter to deploy.
Missing media
When you delete a media, all its references in the Project will also be removed. So, if you go to a place where it was used, you may see that the media cannot be found. The following image will be displayed instead:
